Botox is primarily used to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and fine lines by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles. It’s most commonly applied to the forehead, around the eyes (crow’s feet), and between the brows. Fillers, on the other hand, are gel-like substances injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines, soften creases, or enhance facial contours. While Botox focuses on dynamic wrinkles (those that appear with facial expressions), fillers target static wrinkles (those visible even when the face is at rest).

The effects of Botox can last anywhere from 3 to 6 months, depending on the individual’s metabolism, the area treated, and the amount used. As for fillers, their longevity can vary significantly based on the type of filler used, the area treated, and the individual’s body. Generally, filler results can last from 6 months to 2 years. It’s important to discuss with Ashley what to expect based on your specific treatment plan.

When administered by a qualified and experienced professional like Ashley Aquilina, both Botox and fillers are considered safe. However, as with any medical treatment, there are potential risks and side effects. Common side effects include bruising, swelling, or redness at the injection site. More serious complications are rare but can include allergic reactions or infection. During your consultation, discuss any allergies or medical conditions with your practitioner to minimise risks.

Botox injections are generally described as feeling like a quick, small pinch at the injection site. For fillers, since they involve a slightly thicker substance being injected, the sensation might be a bit more intense than Botox. However, many filler products contain lidocaine, a mild anesthetic, to help minimise discomfort during the procedure. Additionally, we apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area before proceeding with the injections to further reduce any potential discomfort. Most of our clients find the procedures very tolerable, often comparing the sensation to a minor bug bite or a pinch. It’s important to communicate with Ashley if you have concerns about pain so they can take extra steps to ensure your comfort.

To minimise the risk of bruising and swelling, it’s advised to avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, and any medications or supplements that can increase bleeding, such as fish oil, for 48 hours before your treatment. It’s also recommended to schedule your appointment at least 1 week before any major events to allow any potential bruising or swelling to subside. Ashley may provide additional specific instructions based on the treatment plan and your medical history.
